Chapter 665

The moment Evelyn heard Alexander's car pull into the driveway, her pulse quickened.

She hastily ended her call with Sebastian, making some vague excuse about needing to go.

Throwing open her bedroom door, she nearly sprinted downstairs before remembering her predicament.

Her feet froze mid-step.

"What if Alexander discovers my blindness was all an act?"

"Would he exile me to some foreign country?"

Just then, Claire emerged from her room and spotted Evelyn hovering in the hallway.

"Evelyn? Did you hear the car? Were you coming to greet my husband?"

Before Claire could finish, Alexander appeared at the top of the stairs.

His gaze locked onto Claire the moment he entered.

Without hesitation, he swept her into his arms.

"Where are your slippers?" he murmured, concern lacing his voice as he lifted her onto his shoes.

Claire had been napping and rushed out barefoot when she heard his arrival.

"Alexander..." Evelyn tried to interject, but he didn't even glance her way.

The dismissal stung.

When his eyes finally met hers, she saw the truth reflected in them - he knew everything.

He'd come home specifically to confront her.

Instead of anger, his voice was eerily calm. "Evelyn, I'll purchase you a new ticket. Any destination you prefer. I'll handle all arrangements."

The unspoken message was clear - he wanted her gone.

Strangely, the offer tempted her.

Her reputation lay in ruins after the plagiarism scandal involving Claire.

Perhaps leaving the country would give her a fresh start.

With practiced vulnerability, she pleaded, "Alexander, can't I stay? I don't want to go anywhere else! I love it here!"

"Don't be difficult. You have three days to decide." As Andrew's friend, Alexander couldn't abandon his sister completely. "If you can't choose, I'll choose for you - marry Dominic."

Evelyn recoiled as if struck.

"What? I won't marry Dominic!" Her voice rose hysterically. "He's obsessed with your wife! You know this! Marriage to him would be torture!"

With that, she spun on her heel and slammed her bedroom door.

No one dared raise their voice to Alexander like that.

He frowned. "The Morgans are gone. Why does she still act like a spoiled princess? Who indulged this behavior?"

Claire observed the exchange, realizing Alexander treated Evelyn purely as a sister.

His protective demeanor held no romantic undertones.

Her lingering doubts finally eased.

Suddenly, Alexander's attention snapped back to Claire with startling intensity.

"What?" she asked, self-consciously touching her face.

"Even she knows Dominic only wants you," he growled, tilting her chin up until their foreheads nearly touched.

Heat radiated from him as his grip tightened possessively.

The air between them crackled with tension, though irritation still darkened his expression.

Claire never imagined Dominic could provoke Alexander's jealousy.

Alexander pressed her against the wall, his body flush against hers. "You belong to me, Evelyn..."

One hand entwined with hers while the other traced her jawline.

His hooded gaze dropped to her lips just as her phone shattered the moment.

An unknown number flashed on screen.

She ignored it, but the caller persisted.

With a frustrated growl, Alexander snatched the phone and answered.

"Ms. Carter? Where are you? Mr. Powell is injured... he needs you! I'm coming to get you." Nathaniel's panicked voice blared through the speaker.

Claire's stomach dropped.

Alexander's expression darkened. "Who is this?"

Recognizing Alexander's voice, Nathaniel answered bluntly, "Nathaniel Powell, Mr. Powell's assistant."

Jealousy flared in Alexander's eyes.

First Dominic's lingering obsession, now this?

Claire wondered how Nathaniel obtained her number.

As Alexander moved to disconnect, Nathaniel rushed on, "Mr. Whitmore, Mr. Powell is seriously hurt. This isn't a ploy - Ms. Carter's medical skills are his only hope!"

"What injury requires her specifically? Take him to a hospital," Alexander countered coldly.

"It must be Ms. Carter," Nathaniel insisted desperately.

Miranda Powell had recently punished Dominic in the ancestral hall after his kidnapping of Vanessa.

Normally this wouldn't be severe, but Dominic had just recovered from a car accident that shattered his legs.

Despite metal rods supporting his limbs, Miranda forced him to kneel on a washboard for twenty-four hours.

When released, his legs were mutilated beyond recognition.

Nathaniel knew only Claire's acupuncture could save him now.

"Ms. Carter, please! Without your help, he may never walk again!" Nathaniel's voice broke. "His entire life has been suffering - no parental love, taking the fall for family crimes as a teenager..."

"Ten years in prison would have broken him completely if you hadn't given him hope."

The raw plea struck a chord.

Without Claire's intervention, Dominic would never have fought for early release.
