Chapter 593

Alexander rushed to explain. "You've got it all wrong!"

Before he could finish, tears welled up in Evelyn's eyes. Not wanting him to see her cry, she stood abruptly and stormed out of the restaurant.

Alexander panicked, thinking she was leaving him for good. He bolted after her.

Evelyn stood by the curb, desperately trying to hail a cab. But the streets remained empty. She huffed in frustration, then noticed Alexander standing silently behind her.

Their eyes locked. Evelyn's breath hitched as something stirred deep inside her - like a gentle ripple disturbing still waters.

The first raindrops began to fall. Without thinking, Alexander pulled Evelyn into his embrace, shielding her from the rain with his body.

Feeling his protective gesture, Evelyn weakly pounded his chest with her fist.

Alexander caught her wrist and pressed her palm against his pounding heart.

His familiar sandalwood scent enveloped her, bringing an unexpected sense of security.

Her anger began to melt away.

"Why," she wondered, "does this man have to be so infuriatingly perfect? He won't even let me stay properly angry."

The truth was, Evelyn wasn't truly angry anymore. Just confused and hurt.

She'd spent hours trapped alone in that freezing concert hall, starving and frightened, only to find her husband arriving with another woman - and mentioning it was Isabella's birthday no less!

The rain intensified. Alexander gently guided Evelyn under a nearby awning, his hand protectively cradling the back of her head.

"You have a perfectly good husband with a car, yet you're trying to catch a cab? Evelyn, are you saying you don't trust me?"

Evelyn looked down. "It's not about trust. I'm jealous. Jealous of you and Isabella."

Her blunt confession surprised Alexander, but a warm smile spread across his face.

Tucking a damp strand of hair behind her ear, he murmured, "If you're jealous, it means you care. That makes me happier than you can imagine."

Evelyn rolled her eyes dramatically. "Who gets happy about making someone jealous? You're ridiculous! Maybe I should stay mad forever!"

She stomped on his foot and tried to push away.

Alexander tightened his grip and pulled her closer.

Leaning down, his voice turned serious. "I messed up. I'm sorry. Will you forgive me?"

His gaze held hers with raw sincerity. "I waited outside the concert hall for hours, but your phone was dead. Then Isabella showed up mentioning her birthday."

"I never intended to bring her. This was supposed to be our date night. But when I couldn't reach you, I thought she might know where you were." Alexander's eyes reflected only Evelyn's face.

Cupping her cheeks, he pressed a tender kiss to her forehead.

"Evelyn, you're the only woman I've ever loved."

The downpour turned torrential, transforming the streets into shimmering mirrors of neon lights.

In Alexander's deep gaze, Evelyn saw the city's glow - and her own astonished reflection.
