Chapter 590
The moment Evelyn disappeared through the doors, Alexander sprinted after her. "Evelyn!"
Dominic remained motionless, his fingertips brushing the blood at his split lip.
Alexander hadn't pulled his punch.
Though Dominic had taken the hit, he didn't consider himself defeated. Alexander's face bore its own marks of their scuffle.
While Dominic could stand unaided now, his body hadn't fully recovered. A sudden wave of dizziness washed over him.
Dominic scowled and motioned toward Isabella, who stood frozen nearby. "Get over here and help me."
Isabella snapped out of her shock.
With visible reluctance and a hint of fear, she approached and slipped an arm around his waist.
From this close proximity, she couldn't help noticing Dominic's striking features - the rugged jawline, the piercing eyes that held a dangerous allure. Fragments of their previous encounters suddenly clicked into place.
Understanding dawned. Isabella finally grasped why Dominic had treated her with such coldness.
Her voice took on a teasing lilt as she studied his profile. "You're after Alexander's woman, aren't you?"
Dominic's gaze turned glacial, the sudden intensity making Isabella recoil.
Remembering his ruthless reputation, she swallowed her remaining words and focused on supporting his weight.
After a tense silence, Isabella ventured, "If you want Evelyn, why don't you call off our engagement?"
Dominic's laugh held no warmth. "That decision isn't mine to make. Take it up with my father, Reginald."
Isabella stiffened. "Reginald? Your father?"
The revelation shocked her. She'd never imagined someone as fiercely independent as Dominic would have his marriage arranged by family...
Outside the concert hall, Alexander finally caught up to Evelyn.
She still wore Dominic's coat - a detail that stoked Alexander's irritation.
Steeling himself, he blocked her path. "What's really going on between you and Dominic?"
Evelyn ignored him, flagging down a passing cab and sliding inside.
Alexander moved to follow.
But before he could reach the vehicle, the driver accelerated away.
"Miss, is that gentleman in the fancy car your boyfriend?"
The cabbie glanced at the luxury vehicle tailing them in his rearview mirror.
The high-performance Porsche maintained steady pursuit.
"Just saying," the driver continued with worldly wisdom, "for men like that, time equals money. If he's chasing you this hard, you must mean something special."
The approaching traffic light turned red. The driver could have sped through but chose to slow instead.
"Look at that! Who drives a Porsche like that just to chase a girl? That's true dedication right there."
Evelyn bit her lip. Memories of shivering alone in the concert hall while Alexander entertained Isabella flashed through her mind, reigniting her anger.
The driver gave a knowing smile in the mirror. "No point in running, sweetheart. How about I stop so you two can talk?"
Evelyn massaged her temples as the cab rolled to a halt.
The Porsche pulled up behind them, and Alexander emerged.
