Chapter 393

Otherwise, Alexander wouldn't have remained so composed. He would have confronted Ethan long ago.

It appeared Alexander didn’t care deeply about Evelyn after all.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t be so indifferent.

Ethan walked past Alexander and offered a polite greeting. "Uncle Alexander."

Alexander lowered his newspaper and met Ethan's gaze.

Their eyes locked. The overpowering scent of perfume clinging to Ethan was unmistakable. Alexander merely gave a curt nod, his expression unreadable.

As Ethan ascended the stairs, Alexander's gaze darkened.

He knew instantly—Ethan had seen Evelyn.

The perfume was one he recognized all too well. He had seen it on Evelyn’s vanity countless times.

The scent wasn’t just lingering on Ethan—it was drenched into his clothes, as if deliberately sprayed onto him.

Alexander understood. This was Evelyn’s message.

She was signaling that she was trapped, unable to reach him.

Without hesitation, Alexander turned to Simon beside him. "Find out where he just came from."

Alexander Whitmore gave a curt nod as Simon Graves exited the room.

Minutes later, Simon returned, his expression grim. "Sir, I hit a dead end."

Alexander's brows furrowed. "Explain."

Simon hesitated before continuing. "Ethan Caldwell switched vehicles multiple times during his route—clearly trying to throw us off. Each car stopped briefly in surveillance blind spots. We lost track of his movements entirely. There’s no way to trace his origin point."

A cold smirk curled Alexander’s lips.

He hadn’t anticipated Ethan’s level of caution.

Confronting him directly wasn’t an option. Not when Evelyn Carter was still in his grasp.

Ethan had already proven he wouldn’t back down from threats. If pushed too far, he might retaliate against Evelyn.

And that was a risk Alexander couldn’t take.

His fingers clenched into fists at his sides.

For now, restraint was the only play.

As long as he didn’t provoke Ethan, Evelyn would remain unharmed.

But patience had its limits.

And Alexander’s were wearing thin.

Alexander's first instinct was to rush to her rescue, but Evelyn's safety remained his top priority.

"Have someone discreetly tail him," Alexander commanded, his voice low and urgent. "Track his movements after he leaves. Make sure he doesn’t notice."

Simon gave a firm nod. "Understood. I’ll handle it immediately."

He turned to leave but hesitated, pivoting back with a sudden realization.

Alexander frowned. "What is it?"

Simon pulled out his phone, swiping through records. "While investigating Mrs. Caldwell’s recent activities, I discovered something unexpected. The night you were away in Griffore, she booked a last-minute flight from Cresthaven to Griffore."

Alexander’s breath hitched. "She was coming to see me?"

Simon tapped the screen, displaying the airline confirmation. "This was the same day you ignored her calls."

The weight of the revelation settled heavily in Alexander’s chest.

He had been so preoccupied with business that he hadn’t noticed—hadn’t even considered—that Evelyn might have been trying to reach him.

Now, with danger looming, the regret burned sharper than ever.

Simon’s voice softened. "I thought you should know."

Alexander exhaled slowly, his jaw tightening. "Find her. Now."

Every second counted.

And this time, he wouldn’t fail her.
