Chapter 588

Evelyn studied Dominic's face intently. "Was it you who killed Mr. White?"

"Mr. White?" Dominic's brow furrowed. "Who's that?"

"Vincent White, the owner of Eclipse Lounge. Didn't you see Isabella there?" Evelyn pressed, her voice tight.

Dominic let out a dry chuckle. "Why would I kill him? I don't even know the man. Cover my tracks?" He shook his head. "You give me too little credit. For something so insignificant, I wouldn't waste my energy."

Evelyn searched his eyes, looking for any sign of deception.

Dominic met her gaze steadily, his expression unreadable.

Having spent considerable time with him, Evelyn understood Dominic to some extent. She knew that despite his unpredictable nature, he wasn't one to lie outright.

"If he says it wasn't him, then it wasn't him," she concluded silently.

"But if not Dominic, then how did Mr. White die?" The mystery deepened, leaving her more confused than before.

Suddenly remembering her dinner plans with Alexander, Evelyn realized she was already late. She turned to leave, but Dominic's voice stopped her.

"Did you see the photo I sent you?"

Evelyn frowned. "My phone has no signal. What photo?"

Dominic handed her his phone. The screen displayed an image of Alexander and Isabella sitting together in a car outside the orchestra building, deep in conversation.

From the angle, it almost looked like they were embracing.

"This one wasn't staged," Dominic said with a shrug. "Pure coincidence."

Evelyn's face paled. Her fingers tightened around the phone, her lips pressed into a thin line.

Dominic's voice dropped lower. "Maybe it's time you stepped aside and let them be."

"Or better yet," his gaze flicked to her abdomen, "marry me. I'd make an excellent ready-made father."

Evelyn snapped. She shoved the phone back at him.

"Why would I want to marry into the Powell family? Our deal was simple - I help you walk again. Now that you're healed, we're done. We shouldn't see each other again." She turned sharply to leave.

"Honestly, darling, it's not your decision to make. You think I'll let you walk away that easily?"

Dominic moved swiftly, blocking her path. "A man who can't make up his mind isn't worth your time. If you're not satisfied with my family, the Caldwells aren't much better." He placed a hand on her shoulder. "Besides, I did save your life tonight. The least you could do is not be so eager to cut ties."

At that moment, Alexander and Isabella reached the lounge entrance.

Isabella trailed behind, protesting. "Alexander, I'm telling you, she's not here—" Her words died when they reached the doorway.

Hearing their approach, Dominic suddenly pulled Evelyn into an embrace.

Caught off guard, Evelyn stiffened. Dominic's tall frame meant her face pressed against his chest. From that angle, her eyes locked with Alexander's through the doorway.

For a brief, electric moment, their gazes held. Evelyn could clearly see the shock in Alexander's eyes.

Dominic leaned down, whispering in her ear. "If he can cozy up to his childhood sweetheart, why can't you have a charming companion of your own?"

Evelyn had been about to push Dominic away, but when she saw Isabella clutching Alexander's arm, she froze.
