Chapter 577
Dominic's eyes were glassy, his face flushed with fever.
His voice came out hoarse. "Go on, stitch me up. Let's see how terrible your sewing skills are."
Evelyn remained silent.
The bed was too low for her pregnant form. Rather than straining, she simply knelt on the floor.
Years ago, when medical resources were scarce, her mentor Jonathan had performed emergency sutures in dire situations. Evelyn had assisted him on several occasions.
This was her first time doing it alone. Her fingers trembled slightly with nerves. Thankfully, Dominic lay perfectly still, like a mannequin, showing no reaction to the pain. Determined to do it right, Evelyn worked with meticulous care for nearly an hour. By the time she finished, her knees had gone numb from kneeling so long.
She peeled off her gloves, bracing herself against the bed as she rose to sit in the chair. Absently, she wiped the sweat beading on her forehead.
Then she cleaned the wound and secured it with a sterile bandage.
Dominic glanced at the sutures. "Slow and painful, but not bad. After our last fight, I thought you'd leave me to suffer. Yet here you are..."
Before he could finish, Evelyn shoved a thermometer between his lips, cutting him off.
Her gaze drifted to his palm, where a fresh cut from their previous argument remained untreated.
She disinfected it with iodine and wrapped it carefully.
Once done, she retrieved her stethoscope and began examining him.
"Your herbal soak needs modification," she said evenly.
Then she inserted acupuncture needles along key points in Dominic's legs. "Your condition is improving. You can start rehabilitation exercises soon—it'll speed recovery. Make sure Nathaniel massages your legs nightly to stimulate circulation." She sketched a diagram on paper, demonstrating the techniques for Nathaniel.
Nathaniel recorded the demonstration on his phone for reference.
After the massage, warmth spread through Dominic's legs like a gentle current. At first, he'd only allowed Evelyn to treat him out of desperation, expecting nothing. Yet her methods had produced undeniable results.
Dominic's eyes gleamed with disbelief. "Where did you learn medicine like this?"
Specialists had declared his legs beyond repair, yet in just a month, Evelyn had restored some sensation.
He'd investigated her thoroughly. Evelyn had no medical degree, no history of practice. How had she become this miracle worker capable of treating even him?
Evelyn answered calmly, "I learned from a great doctor."
Dominic's skepticism deepened. He'd tried countless treatments, and every specialist had given the same grim prognosis. One had mentioned that only Esther George, a legendary healer, might have helped him. "Who is Esther?" Dominic frowned.
The doctor had said Esther was the finest physician of their era but had vanished years ago. Rumors claimed they'd died—or taken on a single apprentice.
Dominic had dismissed it as fantasy.
Now, watching Evelyn's impossible results, he suddenly seized her wrist. "What's your connection to Esther?"
