Chapter 526
Evelyn pressed her palms firmly against Dominic's chest, shoving him backward onto the plush bed.
"Dominic, get a grip! I only came to treat your injury! I'm a married woman! This is completely inappropriate!"
Anyone with eyes could see what Dominic had attempted - forcing himself on her for a stolen kiss.
A wicked grin curled Dominic's lips. "What's the problem? You're married, I'm engaged. Doesn't that make it more exciting? The thrill of forbidden fruit?"
When Evelyn had pushed him, she'd accidentally hit his wounded shoulder. Though pain radiated through his chest, he maintained that infuriating smirk.
Evelyn found herself speechless at his twisted reasoning.
She recoiled from his touch, putting several feet between them.
"I'm carrying Alexander's child. You need to erase whatever sick fantasy you're entertaining."
Dominic's grin only widened, his eyes sparkling with dark amusement. "Perfect timing then, isn't it? You're pregnant, I'm injured. One reckless night together would be quite the adventure, don't you think?" Evelyn bit her tongue hard.
She couldn't fathom what kind of depraved pleasure he was imagining.
Evelyn refused to continue this disturbing conversation.
She'd done her medical duty - nothing more.
Perhaps from blood loss, Dominic's complexion had turned ashen. After their brief exchange, exhaustion etched deep lines across his face.
Seizing the moment of vulnerability, Evelyn swiftly produced two silver needles and pressed them into precise pressure points. Dominic's eyelids immediately grew heavy. Evelyn couldn't leave fast enough.
Still seething, she tucked the blanket around him but deliberately pinched his wound area.
"Did you really think I wouldn't retaliate?" she thought venomously.
Dominic's eyes fluttered half-open as the sudden pain made him hiss sharply.
What shocked Evelyn most was Dominic's reaction - instead of anger, he actually smiled at her!
His darkened eyes gleamed as he murmured, "Once you heal my leg, darling, we'll have all the time in the world to... acquaint ourselves better."
Evelyn remained stonily silent.
Absolute nonsense!
As Evelyn turned to leave, Dominic's assistant Nathaniel appeared to escort her out.
Walking through the manor corridors, Evelyn gave crisp instructions: "Keep the wound dry, and ensure he takes the medicinal bath for three consecutive days."
"Understood, Ms. Carter."
Nathaniel respectfully guided her to the Powell Manor gates, his parting words polite yet loaded: "You're always welcome here, Ms. Carter."
Evelyn had no intention of ever returning. The entire estate felt oppressive and sinister.
Especially Dominic... his predatory demeanor made her skin crawl.
After healing his leg, she vowed to sever all connections.
As she departed, Evelyn failed to notice the shadowy figure observing her from an upper window.
Vanessa stood pensively, watching Evelyn's retreating form.
"Why would Evelyn be leaving Dominic's private quarters so late at night? What exactly were they doing in there?"
"Vanessa, what has captured your attention so?" came a smooth male voice behind her.
The impeccably groomed man was Sebastian Powell, Dominic's elder brother.
Vanessa had come to Powell Manor for business negotiations - Horizon Enterprises needed a patent Sebastian controlled. The discussions had run later than expected. She never anticipated spotting Evelyn on her way out.
Covertly, Vanessa snapped a photo with her phone.
Turning to Sebastian with practiced charm, she said, "Oh nothing, just admiring your magnificent peonies in the moonlight."
Once outside the manor gates, Vanessa immediately forwarded the photo to Ethan.
"Ethan, look at this. Evelyn sneaking out of Dominic's room in the dead of night. Doesn't this suggest something... inappropriate between them?"
