Chapter 511
Ethan sensed Evelyn still carried a flame for him.
Why else would her first instinct be checking his injuries after the accident?
If that wasn't love, then nothing was.
All his recent efforts were finally bearing fruit.
He was convinced that with persistent kindness, Evelyn would eventually return to him.
The three-hundred-foot drag had left Ethan with multiple abrasions.
Between the recent dagger wound to his chest and this new trauma, Evelyn immediately called for an ambulance.
When the paramedics arrived, she tried to leave after seeing Ethan loaded inside.
But the emergency team insisted she accompany them.
Panicked she might refuse, Ethan quickly claimed Evelyn was his aunt...
The medical staff, assuming family relations, wouldn't let her leave, whisking them both away.
Before departing, Dominic gave them a loaded look.
Cigarette dangling from his lips, he leaned out the window with dangerous nonchalance.
"Darling, remember your promise. I'll be waiting for your visit!"
Both Ethan and Evelyn turned simultaneously.
The Rolls-Royce bore a massive dent from the collision, making Dominic appear even more sinister as he called Evelyn "Darling."
The intimate term set off alarm bells in Ethan's mind.
As the damaged luxury car disappeared down the street, Ethan frowned.
"Evelyn, what exactly did you promise Dominic?"
"Did you bargain with him to save me?"
"Or is he blackmailing you?"
During the dragging incident, Ethan had heard Evelyn pleading with Dominic but couldn't make out specifics.
The thought of her making deals with that devil for his sake sickened him.
He wouldn't allow Evelyn to suffer on his account.
City lights blurred past the ambulance windows as Ethan reached for Evelyn's hand. She pulled away.
"Stop deluding yourself, Ethan. I didn't negotiate with him for you."
"The outcome would've been identical regardless of your presence."
Even without Ethan, she'd have agreed to treat Dominic's leg - he'd saved her life by intercepting that speeding car. But Ethan refused to believe this.
Hope shone in his eyes as he studied her.
He interpreted Evelyn's denial as protecting him from guilt!
After all, dealing with the infamous Dominic Powell was no small sacrifice.
Clearly, she still cared deeply!
The ambulance reached the hospital swiftly, where doctors whisked Ethan away for examination.
When staff addressed Evelyn as family, they handed her the paperwork.
She nearly groaned aloud.
Even after their long separation, Ethan's affairs still entangled her.
She immediately called Vanessa, demanding her presence.
Upon hearing Ethan had been car-dragged, Vanessa exploded.
"How did you find out before me? Evelyn, are you seducing Ethan again? What were you two doing together?"
Too exhausted for drama, Evelyn simply completed the paperwork.
After scheduling Ethan's treatments and texting Vanessa the details, she hung up.
As she turned to leave, a familiar figure froze her in place.
Alexander.
He pushed a wheelchair through the hospital corridors, his striking presence drawing eyes.
And in that wheelchair sat a frail, pale woman.
Isabella Morgan.
