Chapter 73
"That's her," Dominic answered sharply.
"Understood! I won't forget her face!" the police captain replied immediately.
Back at the Blackwood estate, Evelyn sat frozen at her vanity, fingers hovering over her laptop keyboard after posting about her stolen phone on social media.
Her mind swirled with dread.
Maybe it would be better if the thief just factory reset the device and pawned it off.
The thought of some stranger scrolling through her personal photos, reading private messages—it made her physically ill.
She pressed trembling fingers to her temples, exhaling shakily.
If only she'd stayed within the gated community for her evening walk.
The private gardens would've been perfectly fine!
Evelyn pushed away from the desk and stumbled into the ensuite bathroom.
The scalding shower did little to calm her nerves. When she finally collapsed into bed, sleep refused to come.
Just as her eyelids grew heavy, frantic knocking shattered the silence.
"Madam Evelyn? Are you awake?" Mrs. Wilkins' voice carried through the oak door. "Mr. Blackwood just called—they recovered your phone! You'll need to sign release papers at the precinct. He offered to handle it if you'd prefer."
Evelyn nearly tripped over the duvet in her haste.
"They found it?"
"Indeed! And might I add, only because Master Dominic intervened," the housekeeper emphasized carefully. "I took the liberty of informing him earlier. You're not cross with me, are you?"
Evelyn shook her head violently.
How could she be angry when her private life might still be salvageable?
Thirty minutes later, Evelyn stood trembling in the police station lobby.
The moment she spotted Dominic casually flipping her phone between his fingers, ice flooded her veins.
"Give that to me!" she snarled, launching herself at him.
Dominic raised the device effortlessly above her reach, his smirk turning dangerous.
"Someone's defensive. What exactly are you terrified I'll find?"
"Did you look?" Evelyn's vision blurred with unshed tears. "Do you get off on violating my privacy? I'm not one of your business acquisitions to paw through whenever you please!"
The entire precinct froze.
Every officer had witnessed Dominic's relentless pressure to recover the phone within hours.
And now this ungrateful woman was screaming at Aryadelle's most feared tycoon?
The handcuffed thief suddenly snorted. "Relax lady, it's just a bunch of baby bump selfies!"
Evelyn's blood turned to acid.
Those private photos—documenting every subtle change as her body nurtured new life—now laid bare for strangers to mock.
Dominic's expression shifted to something unreadable as his gaze dropped to her flat stomach.
