Chapter 492

"Let's go inside, Master Dominic." Mrs. Wilkins approached Dominic after waiting patiently.

She didn't know what conversation had transpired between him and Evelyn, but one thing was certain - he never wished any harm upon Evelyn.

Especially now that she carried his child.

Zoe had crossed the line tonight, though her actions were somewhat understandable.

If she hadn't lost her baby, she would have been a mother by now.

Dominic clenched his fists tightly before stepping into the living room.

Zoe sat sipping tea on the sofa, setting her cup down as he entered.

"Dominic, I gave Sophia a sedative. She hasn't slept in twenty-four hours and needs proper rest," she explained, watching him carefully.

"She'll need a cranial examination at the hospital tomorrow," Dominic replied tersely.

"I heard you collapsed earlier. Are you alright?" Zoe asked with genuine concern. "Your health comes first - not just for yourself, but for Sophia too. She hasn't fully recovered yet and might need another surgery."

Dominic glanced at her briefly before saying, "You may leave now."

"Of course. Sophia's asleep. You should rest too." Zoe stood gracefully, walked past him, and exited calmly.

Once alone, Dominic moved toward Sophia's room.

Seeing his approach, Mrs. Whitaker spoke softly, "She just fell asleep, Master Dominic."

"Get some rest yourself. Thank you for everything," Dominic said.

"It's nothing compared to wishing for Sophia's quick recovery," Mrs. Whitaker replied, then added gently, "You must take care of yourself too. I heard Miss Thorne is expecting your child. Wonderful news. Your mother would have been overjoyed."

A lump formed in Dominic's throat as shadows crossed his eyes.

After Mrs. Whitaker left, he sat by the bed, watching Sophia with tender eyes.

Though siblings, they bore no resemblance.

Sophia took after their father, while Dominic favored their mother.

Human nature was complex indeed.

While Dominic despised his father intensely, Sophia's resemblance never reminded him of the man.

With both parents gone and little connection to his much older brother Gregory, Sophia remained his closest family.

He couldn't bear losing her.

When Sophia awoke the next morning, she found her brother sleeping awkwardly by her bedside.

She reached out, gently shaking his shoulder. "Why are you sleeping here, big brother?"

Dominic stirred, rubbing his stiff neck. "How do you feel, Sophia?"

She blinked sleepily. "I'm fine! Just... really hungry!"

Relief washed over Dominic.

"I'll have breakfast brought up. After you eat, we're going to the hospital for a checkup."

Sophia grew quiet for a moment, recalling yesterday's events.

"Don't worry, Sophia. You'll get better soon."

"Okay."

After breakfast, Dominic escorted Sophia to St. Elizabeth Medical Center. The brain scan results came back surprisingly normal.

The doctor reviewed the images. "Sophia must avoid any stressful triggers moving forward. Maintaining her current condition is already significant progress."

The tension in Dominic's chest finally eased.

As they exited the hospital, Dominic's phone rang.

Zoe's name flashed on the screen. After helping Sophia into the car, he stepped aside to answer the call.
