Chapter 406

The sole reason Evelyn questioned Dominic was the sheer terror in his eyes when he'd been choking Henry. Just recalling that moment sent shivers down her spine.

She didn't ask why he'd done it because no matter how much Henry provoked him, no adult should ever lay hands on a child!

What kind of monster attacks a five-year-old?

Dominic lifted his gaze to meet Evelyn's.

"Not just that," he rumbled, his voice dark as thunder. "Rape, murder, abduction, theft - I've committed every sin imaginable."

Evelyn's breath caught. His expression was deadly serious. The shock left her speechless, her mind reeling.

"Stop pretending you care about me, Evelyn." He tapped his cigarette absently against the crystal ashtray. "You only care about your precious twins. I warned your son already - don't test my limits," he drawled, each word dripping with menace.

"He won't do it again!" Evelyn's voice cracked, betraying her fear.

Dominic stubbed out his cigarette. Rising from the chair, he stalked toward the hospital bed.

"I owe you nothing, Evelyn. Don't raise your voice at me!" His crimson-rimmed eyes burned with fury. "My patience isn't infinite."

A sharp knock interrupted them. The door swung open.

The nurse entered with a steaming bowl of oatmeal, freezing when she saw Dominic. He snatched the bowl from her trembling hands.

The nurse fled without another word.

Evelyn needed strength to escape. Pushing through the pain, she struggled upright.

When Dominic reached her bedside, she reached for the bowl. She refused to be fed like some invalid.

He ignored her outstretched hand. Scooping a spoonful, he brought it to her lips.

Evelyn stared in disbelief. Hadn't he seen her reaching? She didn't want his help!

Hadn't he just threatened her?

"Open." His gaze locked onto hers, her hatred reflected in his dark eyes.

"You're a demon," she spat, finally seeing his true nature.

"A demon who's taking you straight to hell with me." Without flinching, he pinched her jaw open and forced the spoon between her lips.

He fed her the entire bowl methodically, then dabbed her mouth with a tissue.

Evelyn sat motionless, enduring his twisted "care." To him, she was just another possession to control.

People contained multitudes. Dominic had shown her fleeting kindness, but now she understood - even his tenderness was just another form of manipulation.

Before leaving, Dominic placed her phone on the pillow. The moment the door clicked shut, she grabbed it. Dozens of missed calls flashed across the screen.

She scrolled straight to Michael's number.

"Evelyn!" he answered instantly.

"It's me! Michael, Henry-"

"Henry's safe with me! Just shaken up!" Michael's voice broke with emotion. "I heard about the wolf attack! What kind of insane-"

"Just superficial wounds. I'll heal soon," she brushed off before turning grave. "Michael, you must never let Henry provoke Dominic again! He despises children-"

"Focus on recovering. I've got the kids." Michael's tone hardened. "Are you certain he'll actually let you come home after this?"

Evelyn's lashes fluttered. "I... I think so."
