Chapter 346

Has Evelyn ever spoken the truth? Was she being cautious or was she treating him as the enemy?

If she was being cautious of him, why? What was she afraid of?

If she treated him as the enemy—that made even less sense! He had never intentionally harmed her, so why this hostility?

Dominic's forehead remained furrowed the entire drive home. Upon arrival, Mrs. Wilkins immediately took Sophia.

His phone rang. Without hesitation, he turned the car around and sped off.

At the Midnight Lounge, Lucas spotted Dominic entering. He quickly pulled him toward their usual booth.

"Dom! Where the hell have you been all day?" Lucas poured him a generous glass of whiskey.

"I went to see Eric Montclair." He accepted the glass and took a long sip. "You'll never guess who performed his surgery."

The group leaned in, waiting for the revelation, but Dominic clenched his jaw instead.

"Have I wronged Evelyn somehow?" He massaged his temples before downing the drink. "She demanded the divorce. Begged her to stay—wouldn't listen. Afterward, she rebuilt Thornfield Industries; I moved on. Every time she's in trouble, I'm there. Yet she keeps pushing me away. Told me to be with Zoe, so I did... And still she looks at me like I'm the villain. Why?"

Dominic's slurred words betrayed his intoxication.

Zoe was his current partner, yet Evelyn occupied his thoughts. Even now, drowning in liquor because of her.

"Dom, you've gone above and beyond for Evelyn! Her arrogance comes from your indulgence! I've said it before—the kinder you are, the more she disrespects you! Only by cutting her off will she appreciate you!"

"Fifteen million last year alone! Did she even thank you? Bet she didn't!"

"Fifteen mil could buy you a yacht with models fawning over you! She's not worth this torment!" The chorus of voices grew louder, each adding their own colorful insults.

By eleven, Dominic stumbled out reeking of alcohol. His driver helped him into the backseat.

Fumbling with his phone, he pulled up a contact. One burning question for the family physician.

When the line connected, his voice came out rough: "Could an untrained med student perform complex brain surgery? Not just any procedure—a complete success."

Silence answered him.

Dominic pressed his fingers against his throbbing temples. "I'm talking about Sebastian Whitmore and his protégés. His student... is Evelyn. No medical records exist, yet she operated on Eric Montclair! How did Wesley Ashford allow this?"

On the other end, Zoe's grip tightened around her phone.

A wrong number. He'd meant to call the doctor but reached her instead.

Evelyn operated on Eric?

No wonder Thornfield Industries received his support.

But how? Unless... was she Sebastian's prized pupil?

"Dominic, you dialed wrong." Her voice emerged strained, as if suppressing fury.

Hearing Zoe's voice, Dominic sobered instantly.

He checked the screen. Seeing her name, he ended the call immediately.

A drunken mistake with catastrophic consequences. Had she heard everything?
