Chapter 341
"Dominic said to cancel the engagement. He's not coming," Gregory announced, quickly steadying his mother as she swayed.
Eleanor Blackwood stood frozen in shock.
"What happened? Is everything alright?" Gregory shook his head. "I don't know. He hung up abruptly. Something must have occurred! I'll have the driver take you home while I handle the guests."
The entire event had turned into a humiliating disaster!
Yet no one dared voice their thoughts aloud.
All eyes were fixed on Zoe Montgomery's tear-streaked face.
Never in her life had she experienced such public disgrace! She couldn't bear another second in that room. Gathering her gown, she fled the banquet hall in tears.
This wasn't over. Evelyn Thorne would pay for this!
At Mooncrest Academy, young Henry Thorne watched the engagement venue's live feed when Zoe suddenly stormed out!
His small forehead creased in confusion.
If Dominic Blackwood hadn't arrived yet, did that mean he wasn't coming?
Why else would Zoe Montgomery leave?
Was the engagement called off?
Henry's chest tightened as he steadied his breathing.
He despised Dominic, but couldn't deny their biological connection.
He'd claimed he didn't want a scoundrel for a father.
But if his father proved decent, how could he keep rejecting him?
At noon, the luncheon proceeded mechanically in the banquet hall.
Guests ate quickly before making hasty exits.
Henry never got to play his prepared video.
"Lily," he said suddenly.
"What is it, Henry?"
"Scoundrel Dad isn't getting engaged."
"What? Why not?" Lily asked, confused as she joined her brother.
"The scoundrel didn't show," Henry stated bluntly.
"Is he insulting all womankind?" Lily demanded sternly.
Henry had no answers for his sister's question.
Meanwhile, in the black Rolls-Royce, Dominic plugged Evelyn's phone into the car charger.
Her emotions had gradually cooled.
He wouldn't release her until her anger matched his calm.
Dominic remained determined to find proof of Evelyn's connection to Eric Montclair.
She had no choice but to comply.
When Evelyn's phone powered on, Dominic scrolled through her call history.
"Why so many initials in your contacts?" he demanded.
"Old classmates from abroad."
Her answer made his frown deepen.
If Evelyn spoke truth, Eric Montclair's name wouldn't appear.
"I'm asking one last time, Evelyn. Do you know Eric Montclair?" Dominic gripped her phone, his hawk-like gaze piercing.
"Ask a thousand times - the answer won't change," Evelyn replied without flinching. "At least not before today."
Dominic returned her phone.
Evelyn took it, then taunted, "Shouldn't you be wooing Doctor Montgomery? What if she refuses to treat precious Sophia anymore?"
"Does my suffering amuse you?" Dominic's expression darkened dangerously.
He unlocked the doors, but Evelyn remained seated.
Dominic's brows furrowed at her unexpected stillness.
"I'm not moving until you take me home," Evelyn declared.
Trapped with him all morning, hunger sapped her strength to leave.
Dominic accelerated toward Mooncrest Manor.
Before exiting, Evelyn gripped the door handle and hissed through clenched teeth, "You're despicable, Dominic Blackwood!"
"Despicable?" A vein pulsed at his temple. "Who meets your standards then? Michael? Or darling Wesley?"
"Anyone would be better than you!" Evelyn spat coldly, pushing the door open.
Dominic yanked her back inside.
Before she could resist, his lips crashed onto hers in a dominating, punishing kiss!
