Chapter 207
Evelyn glanced at the children before turning to Clara. "Take them to school. I'm certain he has his reasons for showing up unannounced."
As Clara ushered the children past Dominic, his gaze locked onto Lily's face.
The resemblance between mother and daughter was undeniable.
Lily's sparkling wide eyes held a glimmer of defiance as she glared at him while walking by.
What could possibly have been planted in that young mind to make her despise him so intensely?
Evelyn approached Dominic moments later.
"What brings you here at this ungodly hour?"
Dominic studied Evelyn's fresh, makeup-free face before asking with a conflicted expression, "Is she truly your biological daughter? The resemblance is striking."
"Did you come all this way just to scrutinize my child?"
"Who's her father?" Dominic demanded, voice rising. "She must be at least four if she's already in preschool."
Evelyn realized she couldn't possibly claim Lily was adopted this time.
The mother-daughter resemblance was too perfect - like someone had cloned a miniature version of Evelyn herself.
"You're right. She's mine biologically, but you're not the father," Evelyn answered with a bitter smile. "I used an anonymous sperm donor from an overseas fertility clinic to fulfill my dream of motherhood."
What a dream indeed.
Dominic stood speechless, rendered mute by her casual admission.
"If that's all you came for, you can leave now," Evelyn said dismissively.
Dominic's expression darkened. "That man living with you - he's gay."
Evelyn's smile froze.
"How could you possibly know that?"
Mike's personal information was completely untraceable online.
As the world's most notorious hacker, his identity remained sealed unless he chose to reveal it.
Dominic seemed relieved by her reaction.
"So you already knew."
"Don't you have better things to do, Dominic? How's your girlfriend's recovery progressing? How's Sophia doing? With all these women vying for your attention, why waste your precious energy on me? Do you honestly believe there's anything left between us?"
Evelyn shoved Dominic forcefully before turning toward the house.
"Evelyn! My relationship with Sophia isn't what you think!" Dominic called after her retreating figure, fists clenched.
Evelyn gritted her teeth.
How many nights had she waited to hear those words?
She'd given him countless opportunities to explain himself before.
Why now? What exactly was he trying to salvage at this point?
"Are you enjoying this game, Dominic?" Evelyn spun around several paces away, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "The person who deserves your explanations and responsibility is Zoe Montgomery! Not me!"
Her words struck him like a physical blow, though he disagreed with her final assertion.
"I don't owe explanations or responsibility to any woman unless I choose to. You know I never loved Zoe."
"What does that matter to me? I couldn't care less who you date!" Evelyn snapped, each word piercing Dominic's heart. "You never truly loved me, and I won't be fooled again!"
If he had truly cared, he wouldn't have held back. He would have fought for her.
"You claim your relationship with Sophia isn't romantic," Evelyn continued, voice trembling. "Yet she remains the most important person in your life. Just let me go, Dominic! I'm done being your plaything!"
When Nathan returned to the office after his day off, he immediately noticed Dominic's mood had worsened.
Puzzled, he approached Lucas for answers.
"What's wrong with Mr. Blackwood?"
Lucas sighed into his coffee. "According to his driver, Dominic went to reconcile with Evelyn yesterday only to get brutally rejected."
"So my work-related injury was for nothing then."
"Work-related injury?"
Nathan gloomily recounted his bar encounter with Mike.
That afternoon, surrounded by bodyguards, Dominic arrived at Thornfield Industries radiating lethal energy.
