Chapter 189
Henry didn't stop biting until the metallic tang of blood filled his mouth.
It was four in the afternoon when Evelyn received the call from Willowbrook Academy. Henry had bitten someone, and they demanded her immediate presence.
Evelyn frowned. Henry was the only student in his class. Who could he have bitten? The teacher? The thought made her stomach twist. She slammed her laptop shut, grabbed her keys, and stormed out of her office.
Since when did Henry become violent?
He had always been gentle, well-mannered. But lately, she had been drowning in work, barely spending time with him or Lily. Tonight, she would fix that.
When she arrived at the school, the teacher met her with an apologetic smile. "Miss Thorne, your son has already been taken."
Evelyn's blood ran cold.
"Don't worry—Mr. Blackwood took him. You know him, right? I can give you his address—"
Evelyn's cheeks burned with fury. "He just took my son? Without my permission? What kind of school allows this?"
The teacher stammered, "Miss Thorne, please understand—Mr. Blackwood only left minutes ago. I was about to call you, but I knew you were working. He took Henry because he had a fight with Sophia. When Mr. Blackwood arrived, Henry refused to explain. Sophia woke up and wanted to go home, so he took them both. He just wants to understand what happened."
Evelyn barely listened. She clenched her keys until her knuckles turned white.
The teacher hurried after her. "Let me come with you—you don’t know his address—"
"Stop following me!" Evelyn snapped.
"But—"
"I said stop!"
Her heart pounded as she threw herself into the car. What was Dominic doing with her son? Was Henry scared? Hurt? The engine roared to life as she sped off.
Behind her, the teacher muttered, "Does she even know where she's going?"
Dominic had barely stepped into Mooncrest Manor when Mrs. Wilkins rushed forward with a tray of snacks.
Her gaze flickered to the small boy in the baseball cap, his tiny hands gripping his backpack straps like a lifeline. "Master Dominic, who is this?"
"Evelyn's son," Dominic said coolly, sinking into the couch. "Adopted."
Henry stiffened.
Adopted?
Since when? Then he remembered—Mummy had lied. She said if Dominic ever found out the truth, he’d hurt them both.
Mrs. Wilkins softened. "Miss Thorne has such a kind heart." She offered Henry a peeled banana.
He turned away sharply.
Undeterred, Mrs. Wilkins set it aside and fetched a warm towel. Without warning, she tugged off his cap. "Let’s clean that sweaty face—"
The moment the cap came off, Dominic finally saw him clearly.
And froze.
The resemblance was uncanny.
