Chapter 146

The shock on Nathan's face vanished the moment his gaze landed on Evelyn.

The potential buyer for Thornfield Tower turned out to be none other than Evelyn Thorne herself!

Evelyn's thoughts were spinning wildly.

What was Dominic's assistant doing here?

Could it possibly mean...

When Frederick noticed the two men approaching, he rose to greet the property manager.

"Good morning, Mr. Prescott," Frederick said politely, then glanced at Nathan and inquired, "And this gentleman is?"

"This is Mr. Dominic Blackwood's personal assistant, Nathan Cross," Mr. Prescott explained. "Mr. Blackwood was the one who originally arranged the building's purchase four years ago."

Frederick nodded in understanding before extending his hand. "A pleasure to meet you, Mr. Cross."

Nathan shook his hand firmly. "Likewise."

"Allow me to introduce Miss Evelyn Thorne," Frederick continued. "Miss Thorne is my former employer's eldest daughter. She's interested in acquiring Thornfield Tower. After Thornfield Industries collapsed, she went overseas for business and has now returned hoping to repurchase the family building and rebuild the company."

Evelyn felt like she'd been plunged into complete silence. Frederick's words barely registered in her overwhelmed mind.

The entire situation felt like some cruel cosmic joke.

Life was playing its twisted games with her again!

As if Dominic would ever sell Thornfield Tower if he knew she was the buyer!

From what Sophie had told her, Dominic probably loathed her very existence.

"Gentlemen, I'd like a private word with Miss Thorne. Would you mind giving us a moment?" Nathan requested with a professional smile.

Frederick immediately stood up.

"I'll wait outside," he told Evelyn before exiting with Mr. Prescott following close behind.

Suddenly, the café contained only Evelyn and Nathan.

An uncomfortable tension settled between them.

Evelyn lifted her coffee cup and took a slow sip.

Nathan ordered himself an espresso before turning to Evelyn with casual curiosity. "I thought you went abroad for graduate studies, Miss Thorne? How did you accumulate enough capital to purchase an entire skyscraper?"

"That's personal financial information I'd prefer to keep private," Evelyn replied coolly.

Nathan adjusted his glasses, then cut straight to the chase.

"Mr. Blackwood will finalize the divorce if you meet him in person. Similarly, I'm not authorized to discuss your interest in Thornfield Tower. You'll need to take that matter up directly with Mr. Blackwood."

"I have no desire to see him," Evelyn stated bluntly.

"Is guilt preventing you from facing him, Miss Thorne? All Mr. Blackwood wants is proper closure," Nathan said smoothly. "He holds no lingering affection for you, so you needn't worry about any unwanted advances."

Evelyn felt like an invisible blade had pierced her heart, but she maintained perfect composure. "Understood. I'll schedule a meeting when convenient. And for the record, I'm the last person who should feel guilt in this situation."

She stood abruptly and moved to pay the bill.

Nathan observed Evelyn's retreating figure - slender yet radiating quiet strength. Her final words lingered in his mind.

Indeed, her expression had shown not a flicker of remorse.

Was there more to the story between Evelyn and his boss than met the eye?

After Evelyn departed, Nathan returned to headquarters to brief Dominic.

When Dominic learned Evelyn was the prospective buyer for Thornfield Tower, his expression remained utterly impassive. He'd already deduced that possibility himself.
