Chapter 101
The room held only one bed. Since Dominic was ill, Evelyn had no choice but to let him have it.
After her shower, she settled onto the sofa, resigning herself to spending the night there.
But thirty minutes later, Dominic appeared beside her. Having slept all afternoon, it was no surprise he wasn’t tired. Evelyn couldn’t exactly force him back to bed.
On the video call, the tech department manager groaned, "You've been dragging this out, costing me a week of sleep! Evelyn, we need to talk honestly!"
The head of development chimed in, "I haven’t slept properly either! And my appetite’s gone!"
"My hair’s falling out in clumps! And I didn’t have much to begin with!" the HR manager added.
These men were clearly spinning sob stories to pressure her into making a decision.
Dominic scowled and snatched the phone from Evelyn’s hand.
She gasped. "Hey! I’m in the middle of a call! Give it back!"
She lunged for it, but he held it just out of reach.
"Who’s that man? He looks familiar."
"Must be Evelyn’s boyfriend! Still with her this late? Definitely her boyfriend!"
"Wait… doesn’t he look like—?"
On the screen, the three men debated the stranger’s identity.
"Evelyn, how do you hang up? I can’t find the button." Dominic studied the phone for a few seconds before handing it back in defeat.
She immediately ended the call.
"What were you thinking, taking my phone like that?" she snapped.
He blinked lazily. "Their voices were grating. It’s nine at night, not nine in the morning."
"If it bothers you, go home. This is my apartment." She snatched the phone and marched toward the bedroom.
Dominic followed.
Meanwhile, the three managers had started a private call.
"Did you see that? Evelyn’s boyfriend—doesn’t he look like Dominic Blackwood?"
"I’ve only seen photos of him."
"I saw him once, but I was in the back row, hundreds of meters away."
"Haven’t you heard his voice before? That man sounded like him."
"How would we know? We’ve never met him!"
"It has to be him. No wonder she’s stalling with Tristan. She’s got a better option!"
"If that’s true, Evelyn’s playing a dangerous game. Keeping quiet while landing bigger deals?"
"I owe her an apology. I’ve been harassing her daily, calling her clueless!"
"Hold on. Let me confirm if that’s really Dominic first."
Back in the bedroom, Evelyn clutched her throbbing head and collapsed onto the bed. Dominic lay beside her and turned off the lights.
Her eyes were closed, but her sharp breaths betrayed her irritation.
Dominic broke the silence. "I’ve met one of those men before."
She turned her head. "Which one?"
"The heavyset one with glasses."
She shrugged. "So?"
Dominic exhaled. "He recognized me. We can’t hide this anymore." A pause. "I’ll offer three hundred million. Let’s see if Tristan matches it."
"Are you insane?" She kicked him. "This isn’t an auction!"
